Activists across the United Kingdom will protest against the world's governments on the 6th November in a bid to ban fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy.

On the 6th of November The Global Day For Climate Justice, organised by the COP26 Coalition, is taking place across the United Kingdom to protest rising global temperatures and to prevent governments from investing in fossil fuels and their infrastructure.

The protest comes ahead of world leaders gathering in Glasgow for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in which governments from across the world will discuss how best to tackle climate change. Activists from the COP26 Coalition say so far governments have done “too little too late” and the decisions made at the conference will shape how they respond to the current climate crisis. They accuse the world’s governments of “colluding with corporations and hiding behind greenwashed ‘solutions’ that actually don’t exist yet.”

The group wants our government to take accountability and provide green, renewable energy solutions in lieu of polluting fossil fuels and all of the development of infrastructure related to them. They also want to create unionised green jobs and services and reparations for the loss and damage already happening in the Global South and indigenous communities.

The protest comes at a time of country wide climate activism, with Insulate Britain disrupting motorways and busy roads in the south of England with the aim of insulating every home in Britain by 2030. The Global Day For Climate Justice protest takes a less aggressive approach with marches and rallies, advertised as a family day out to save the planet.

If you would like to show your support The Global Day For Climate Justice march in Leeds, it is being held in Millennium Square, 12PM on Saturday November 6th. The COP26 Coalition encourages protestors to bring friends, kids, workmates and your union branch or community group.
