For The People
For The People aims to help vulnerable people in Leeds through services by volunteers.

A Leeds volunteer based organisation called ‘For The People’ are starting a co-operative community aid that they describe as “for the people, by the people.”

Their go-fund-me page describes their aims as providing free tutoring, free sanitary products, alongside creating safe spaces for people to meet new friends and openly discuss traditionally taboo topics.

Loukas Kakaris founded For The People in May 2021 due to a lack of non-profit charities around the Leeds area.

He said they want to “remove the stigma surrounding taboo topics and practice conversation to bring together both young and old people.”

Branching out to the public

On 5th December, the charity is aiming to host a non-profit gig at Hyde Park Book Club, with local bands and artists displaying their work donated to the organisation.

Kakaris said: “The main aims to raise money for are providing free sanitary products, as well as focusing on free education in English and Maths alongside safety in numbers groups.”

A condom and other sanitary product stall will be open to the public, in order to promote taking away the stigma of sex related conversation.

Merchandise will also be available, including tote bags and stickers designed by the volunteers.

All of the profit will go directly into funding the products that For The People will freely give out to those in need. The merchandise is also available online through the ForThePeopleGB Etsy page, in which you can donate to the organisation or buy custom made designs.

For The People is also planning to provide a safer walking environment in Leeds, giving people the opportunity to contact a volunteer available to help walk somebody home if they feel unsafe walking alone at night.
