Bonfire night is often enjoyed by most, but with weeks having passed since the night, many members of the public living in Leeds are still suffering with ‘anti-social’ behaviour from teenagers.
Claims have been made that a group of young teenagers have been setting the fireworks off into peoples houses, and on a few occasions people in the street have been targeted. Headingley and Hyde Park have been main targets for these groups.
Cameron Goodier, a medical student from Leeds said “These fireworks have become a bit of a nightmare. At the moment its just constant noise night after night. I work long tiring shifts and to come back and struggle to sleep is making me really struggle. As a medical student, I could be working days or nights so sleep is so important to me. I don’t really understand why nothing is being done, not even just for my sake but for the families that live in the area and have young children and pets. It can’t be easy for them either.”
Police have had struggles with these groups in the past with threatening students in the street and attempting robberies, with some attempts being successful. Now nights are dark and cold by 4pm, it appears to only be giving these groups an easier chance at continuing to cause trouble on the streets of Leeds.
Mother of 3, Christine Walker says she hopes these groups are caught for the safety of her children. She said “they will target anyone and this worries me. Fireworks are dangerous to anyone.”
The police are yet to comment on what they will be doing to tackle the issue.
