Alcohol abuse is rife in the UK with 24% of adults regularly consuming more than the recommended amount and 27% of people binge drinking each time they drink, according to Alcohol Change UK. Abuse can be fatal, in 2020 there was 7,423 reported alcohol related deaths.
Whilst there are numerous charities and support systems in place, very few alcoholics seek treatment. Out of an estimated 602,391 dependent drinkers in the UK only 18% of these are receiving treatment. Forward Leeds is a partnership of charities that aim to tackle the high number of alcoholics, focusing on how alcohol affects relationships during this years alcohol awareness week.
