Cycling figures show good signs for the future

Data from Leeds City Council has shown that there was a big rise in cycling in Leeds during the Covid lockdown periods compared to the year before.

This was in line with road traffic numbers decreasing with people not going to work and being told to stay at home instead. It is further encouragement that the majority of these people will have been using cycling as a hobby which could prove to be great for cycling figures in the future.

Cycling figures during Covid peaked at 216,063 in June of this year compared the highest figure in 2019 being 192,115 in August. This also shows a trend that cycling proves to be more popular in summer months when the weather is nicer.

There are no figures as of yet past September for 2021 but if last year is anything to go by, the numbers should remain high as even in December 2020 the number was still above 100,000.
