Nurse urges people to get double-vaccinated to 'protect those who are most vulnerable'

There has been a significant decline in the number of people having the second dose of the COVID vaccine. In the North East and Yorkshire, a total of 6,541,935 have had their first jab of the covid vaccine. However, only 6,009,553 have had their second dose, meaning that there is currently a large number of people who aren’t currently double vaccinated.

Student nurse, Philippa Iddon appeared concerned about the latest figures, ‘‘I think it’s poor, I think a lot more young people should be having the vaccine”. She has urged the public to have their vaccines and said: “I know it doesn’t necessarily target us unless you’ve got an underlying health condition, but it is important because if we don’t get it, we can’t protect those people who need protecting”.

Recently reports emerged that government members had a party in the midst of the pandemic last year, a story which has caused outrage across the nation. Philippa Iddon, a student nurse, commented on the situation, and said: ‘I think a lot of people have seen it as it’s one rule for those at the top, and another for all of us underneath. It does look that way, but we’re not getting the vaccine, we’re not following the covid guidelines to please the government, we’re doing it to protect those who are most vulnerable’.

Booster jabs are now available to all those over the age of 18. A covid vaccination administrator in Cross Gates talked of the possible side effects the booster vaccine can have. He said ‘If you feel like your heart is beating out your chest, if you feel like your skin is very itchy, if you’re struggling to breathe, or if you get a whole-body rash seek medical attention. These are all extremely unlikely’.

Following the emergence of the new omicron variant, the government has introduced a ‘plan B’ to help tackle the spread. On December 8, the Prime Minister outlined the new measures at a press conference at Downing Street. The PM announced that Covid passes will now be mandatory to get into nightclubs and large venues from December 15.
