Light Night Leeds is back for 2022

Interactive displays and immersive projections will light up the city tonight (13th October) with events in Millennium Square taking place from 6:30pm

One of the events held tonight is inspired by classic 80s video games, players are able to use contactless gesture controls to play whilst the projection is mapped onto Leeds Civic Hall. The building “comes alive with light and energy as they progress”

Light Night showcases a variety of artists from Yorkshire and beyond, old and new, with 170 volunteers taking part.

“We have a real mix of local artists and local organisations all across Leeds, we also have a lot of international artists from Australia, Israel, Spain, France…”

Event organiser Abbie told Leeds Hacks “the purpose of it is to bring magic into Leeds City Centre”

“They can see everyday spaces transformed into something spectacular”

One volunteer, Illumaphonium, are unveiling their project for the first time tonight. The 2.5 meter structure is an illuminated maze over 20 meters long representing Leeds’s “urban environment” guests will be able to explore the “soundscape” as well as “not only hear but feel the sounds”

The popularity of light festivals is apparent all over the country from Blackpool to Plymouth as Light Night works with companies across the UK ” it kicks off the autumn season. its something to do at night in the colder months” Abbie, Light Night Organiser
