Health service workers are pressing for extra government support, as the NHS faces the impact of the current energy crisis.

Rocketing costs have left the NHS struggling after they have already faced huge cuts to their funds earlier this year. The Government are being called on to limit energy bill increases and provide more support to the public in order to avoid a public health emergency.

NHS staff are concerned that waiting times for patients and number of patients are going to continue to increase as the health of many is impacted by this crisis as people struggle to pay for their energy.

Student nurse Georgia Bradley said, “Damp and cold rooms, as well as lack of food and all the other issues people are now facing because they can’t afford their bills, are huge reasons why people become ill. We are already seeing a rise in numbers and we aren’t even in winter yet.

“The Government need to do something before it gets out of hand.”

NHS trusts are worried they will have to make critical choices on staff numbers and the services they provide on a day-to-day basis in order to keep operating, with energy costs predicted to only keep rising.
