Job threats rise for Royal Mail workers

strike action
Royal Mail strike continues as they still haven't received a fair pay and redundancies have been announced

Members of The Communication Union stand up to 10,000 jobs that are at threat of becoming redundant. This is now their seventh day of strike action and they’re determined to continue with the protests until they are heard.

Groups of people are protesting outside a number of picket lines to show their passion for the campaign taking place. One postman from Leeds, Dean Brown , says: “How can they get rid of people, we actually need more people!” While another postman, Richard Harrison, states: “There is no chance that this threat will stop people from striking”. The CWU are planning on continuing the strikes up until to the announced strike date, the fourth of December, if nothing changes.

Royal mail have said: “We need to cut the 10,000 jobs by next August because of damage and disruption caused by industrial action, as well as declining parcel volumes.” This has caused aggravation to people as Dave Brooks tweets:

MP, Kate Osbourne, stands up in the Prime Ministers Questions to support Royal Mail and the unions and states: “Workers pay, conditions and 10,000 jobs are at threat while the Prime Minister continues to let obscene amounts of profit made while services are cut and stamp prices rise.”

At Royal Mail Holbeck Delivery Office members of The Communications Union, postmen and a member from the ACORN National Organiser joined together to fight for fair pay. Dave Aldwrinkle ,National Organiser of ACORN, says: “This campaign is the worst one. They are now trying to get the power as well as the organisations and the working class.”

The CWU have set a date for another strike to take place which is the 25 October.
