Christmas has arrived in Saddleworth as thousands of Santas complete this years Santa dash.

On Saturday 3rd December the festive season began in Saddleworth with their annual santa dash in which participants complete a charity run dressed as santa. The santa dash has been running for the last 5 years, with a slight hiatus in 2020 due to lockdown restrictions, during which the event was held virtually.

After 5 years the event has brought in a huge crowd with over 1400 Santa’s completing the run. Participants can either complete a 5k route or a 2k route and there are prizes for winners of each.

It’s a day packed full of festive fun for the whole family, at the starting line there is a selection of stalls run by local business owners offering festive treats such as mulled wine, mince pies and sweets. One stall was offering homemade baked goods, fundraising for their annual scouts trip. There was also a selection of street food available such as Thai food or american style-burgers.

From 12 o’clock there was a range of live performers, including the Dobcross youth band and infinity dance. Just before the race, local dance teacher Abbey Mcbride took the stage to lead a group warmup to prevent any injuries throughout the race.

Saddleworth Roundtable put together this event to raise money for charity and were very successful with a huge turnout this year.
