It was revealed today that a 19- year-old man has died in hospital following a stabbing in Halifax on Sunday morning.

Police were called to Commercial Street at 3:38am following reports of an assault on three men.

A 21-year-old male was pronounced dead at the hospital and a third man was also injured with non life-threatening injuries.

Following the attack, three teenagers have been arrested and both remain in police custody at this time. Two of the suspects are 18 year old males and the other a 19 year old.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth, said: “This is an extremely serious incident which has resulted in the death of two young men and a further man injured.”

In a statement released by the West Yorkshire Police, he said: “We have specialist officers supporting both of their families and are determined to get answers for them and ensure that the person or people responsible are made to face justice for their actions.”

This incident follows a separate attack in Harehills on Saturday morning in which two men were killed.

The first of the two victims was located at Back Hill Top Avenue where he was pronounced dead. A second man was found at a nearby address and was taken into urgent care where he later passed away.

As of Sunday, a scene has been established in Harehills for forensic investigation to take place.

The West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are conducting a double homicide investigation.

As a result of the incident in Halifax, Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has called for urgent action on knife crime as more families are left to deal with the tragedies.

She said, “Communities across the country should not be blighted by rising knife crime. Urgent action is needed by Government to prevent and crack down on this dangerous and devastating crime before more lives are lost.”

Police murder investigations are continuing.
