Seven areas in Leeds are going to be affected by new parking restrictions.

Leeds City Council are bringing parking restrictions to seven areas of Leeds.

The restrictions follow a number of concerns made to the Highway Authority regarding careless parking blocking sightlines for both pedestrians and drivers, reduced access for emergency vehicles and the safety of road users. The council have said that addressing these issues will promote the free and safe flow of traffic to avoid further danger.

The seven areas in the scheme include Ardsley, Armley, Calverely Street, City Square, Harewood, Weetwood and south Morley.

Some of the restrictions include putting down double yellow lines in areas of careless parking, implementing one way streets and prohibiting motor vehicles down certain streets, creating a pedestrianised area.

One Ardsley resident Shelley Rowson lives where the double yellow lines are set to be placed, she said, “Initially I thought it was quite a good thing as it will prevent people from parking right outside the house and on the drive, but if people are going to park somewhere else, its just going to move the problem somewhere else, and I do wonder whether people will actually respect the yellow lines.”

Many other residents raised their concerns over the scheme. In a local community group Susanne Penney commented, “this is going to cause even more chaos on Woollin Avenue with all the school traffic.” Whilst another resident Matt Holt commented, “This is just a way to mitigate the obvious increased traffic due to all the reckless house building in the area.”

There is currently no date set for when these parking restrictions will come into place.
