Leeds Beckett's Chancellor Sir Bob Murray is set to release his autobiography 12 October

Sir Bob Murray, who is Leeds Beckett’s chancellor, is releasing his autobiography on 12 October. His book which is called “I’d Do It All Again” pays tribute to his life which is so interesting that he’d do it all again.

After being a successful business owner, the Chairman of Sunderland Football Club and now the Chancellor of Leeds Beckett he has adapted to each role, and he is “proud to do that”. Sir Bob also was the driving force behind building The Stadium of Light and creating the charity the Foundation of Light, as well as helping with the development of Wembley Stadium and St. George’s Park.

Sir Bob said his proudest moment is the fact he’s been married to his wife for 48 years and career-wise the knighthood was a “big thing”, and he also was awarded “the Freedom of The City of Sunderland, which is nice to be recognised by your own people” Sir Bob said. When asked what he wants his legacy to be Sir Bob referred to Leeds Beckett students and said: “People like you guys, I think education is very important and it can change lives.”

Sir Bob grew up in a council house in Consett, he left school with one O-Level and it took him 9 tries to get his English and he decided he wanted to make something of himself. Education is extremely important to him, and he set up the Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarship which is awarded to students who are following in Sir Bob’s footsteps in accounting or finance-related courses, and who are from the North of England.

The autobiography itself also pays tribute to Lance Hardy who began writing “I’d Do It All Again” but sadly passed away after the first draft was completed. It was said by former Sunderland Director Lesley Callaghan: “This book is as much of Lance’s legacy now as it is Sir Bob’s”.

The autobiography will be available to buy at www.sirbobmurraybook.com on 12 October and all proceeds will go to the charity set up by Sir Bob, the Foundation of Light.
