First class ticket from Kansas to Leeds for American football star

Dawson Downing
Dawson Downing, a US American Football player, is flying all the way from Kansas to join the Leeds Beckett Carnegie American football team as its new Quarterback.

Dawson joins the team from University of Missouri after being involved for six years throughout COVID. Dawson also went on trial at NFL team Indianapolis Colts and speaking about that, he said, “I made camp with them, I didn’t make the team but I was able to experience what that was like”.

Since his arrival, Dawson has noticed a few differences between the game back home in America compared to the set up in England. “On the American side there is a lot more of a time commitment.” Dawson also added that this can be “good or bad when you need to get some work and practice in, especially with some of the newer guys who don’t have the lifetime experience.”

Dawson has gone through a massive change moving from the US to Leeds but feels it “has been great” and is settling in nicely to the team and his new surroundings. Dawson, 27 is also enjoying the new style of play saying, “the new coach Joe (Walker) is mixing it up spreading the ball out a little bit which is what I prefer doing and make it more fun I think.”

Jude Scott, who is a GB international American Football player currently in his third year of playing for the team, discussed the impact the American players coming over have on the team, “the skill level these guys have is next level and the experience they bring will be key to our success.”

The new Quarterback has a key role in the hopes of winning the BUCS National Championship this year after the team crashed out in a tight match last year against UWE Bristol in the semi finals.
