Profits soar after Leeds takeaway partners with LUFC in ‘Willy-Wonka’ style giveaway

Profits have soared for the Leeds-based takeaway chain, Pizza Pizza, through a “Willy-Wonka” style ticket giveaway in partnership with Leeds United Football Club (LUFC).

Leeds United gifted the company 10 tickets to watch any home game.

Pizza Pizza owner, Junaid Hussain, 25, said that the “Willy-Wonka”
style giveaway idea came around when he had seen a TikTok and thought it would
be fun for the chain to run its own “golden ticket” giveaway.

Pairs of tickets are hidden in a number of “LUFC Munch Boxes”.

The “Munch Box”, costing £9.90, contains a range of items such as
Turkish donner, loaded fries and chicken strips.

The Pizza Pizza takeaway was established in 2019 with its first store
opening in Beeston, close to the home stadium.

The company has since opened two more stores in Kirkstall and Oakwood.

Hussain said: “As a company, we’re always looking for ways we can improve
our business.”

He added: “It’s not everyday you hear a local food business become a
sponsor of a massive team like Leeds United.”

Pizza Pizza signed the deal with Leeds United on 1 September 2023.

After starting the campaign the chain has seen sales increase by 50% across
all three branches.

Hussain said: “An average of 36,000 people attend a Leeds home game so to have that many people see our adverts has been huge.”

The campaign was planned to end in November but after good customer
engagement in the scheme, Leeds United have promised more tickets to the
takeaway chain with four now available to win for each game.

Pizza Pizza is not the only takeaway chain to take on a sponsorship deal within the sporting industry.

Sportspromedia.com said: “McDonald’s has been a Fifa tournament sponsor since 1994.”

Similarly, the National Rugby League announced this year that its partnership with KFC has been extended until the end of 2027.

These large audience bases continue to increase brand awareness and help boost business profits.
