The foundation will aid people with their mental health

Kidsgrove Athletic have set up a Wellbeing Foundation in an effort to connect better with their community.

With mental health still not openly spoken about as much as it should, the Staffordshire outfit have made the attempt to break down the stigma with the Foundation’s introduction.

The aims of the Foundation are to bring education, health, fitness and wellbeing to people whilst also aiming to build a stronger relationship with local foundations and charities and strengthen communities throughout a variety of programs.

It also aims to grow and maintain confidence and commitment to all involved throughout the foundation and to bring a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing to the community and beyond.

Despite being created less than a week ago, the Facebook site has already amassed over 70 followers.

Liz Pellington, who runs the Facebook account, said: “We have a lot of people around us who suffer with mental health, some in silence, and setting up the foundation is a way to get people either talking or just simply being involved in events.”

“If we can change at least one persons mindset by being involved, it’s great.”

“The sport side to it is to provide programs for all ages and abilities so that no one is ever left behind in achieving what they want to achieve.”

On Sunday November 26th, a wellbeing walk will begin from the Kidsgrove Athletic stadium, starting at 10:30am.

The walk enables the opportunity for the community to get together, get some fresh air, complete a light exercise and talk with one another.

As well as the walk, the Foundation has teamed up with Kidsgrove rotary club to help give presents to those who may not be as fortunate this Christmas.
