Leeds Beckett footballer, Scarlett Oldridge, speaks about Harrogate Town Women's defeat to Wigan Athletic Women and their upcoming fixture vs Redcar Town Ladies.

Harrogate Town Women narrowly missed out on qualifying for the FA Cup first round proper, after they were comprehensively beaten by Wigan Athletic Women.

Despite only trailing by one goal at the halfway stage, Town slumped to a 5-0 defeat last Sunday.

The Yorkshire side are yet to win in the league this season, with their only win coming against Morley Town in the 2nd round of FA Cup qualifying. They travel to Redcar Town on Sunday in search of their first league win of the season.

It’s fair to say that the women’s game is on the rise since England’s Lionesses made the World Cup final this summer. Attendance figures have risen dramatically and live television coverage of the Women’s Premier League is now much more widely available.
