As the two week countdown is officially underway, LeedsNow caught up with LBU Boxing’s Zahraan “Z” Asif-Suleman, who revealed all after recently being matched up with his opponent.

“I’m two weeks out now so I’ll go in a lot harder this week, and then next week focus a bit more on recovery.” He explained. “(it’s) a bit more mental the week before I’d say, a bit more physical this week”.

Although Z has fought for many years he, like most fighters, admits that there’s always pre-fight anxiety to deal with.

“The nerves never go away – every fight is just as hard because the level of opponent gets better” he said, “you become more familiar with the process but the nerves are mad.”

“it comes with it, everyone gets them.”

He also has prior history with his opponent from last years BUCS tournament, where he fought in the under-67kg weight class.

“I know who I’m fighting. He’s from Sheffield, he fought in BUCS as well but he didn’t win it and I did. But he is a tough fighter so it’s gonna be a pretty hard fight. I’m looking forward to it.”

Both Tigers Gym and Leeds Beckett boxing have previously produced a number of professional boxers including 4x British Thai Boxing champion Michelle Sutcliffe and super welterweight boxer Jake Goodwin respectively.

The show will open its doors at 7PM at Queenswood Social Club in Headingley, with entry costing £15. It’s expected that those involved will be seriously put to the test.
