Beckett Men’s Football Battle it out

LBU Mens Football Head Coach Steve Waide discusses upcoming clash between Beckett 1st and 2nd teams

In Men’s Football the Beckett 1st team take on Beckett’s 2nd Team who have been performing better than the 1st’s this year.

A contest to decide who the best Leeds Beckett football team takes place at 3pm today, when the Beckett Men’s 1st Team face their better performing 2nd Team at Headingley campus.

After 3 games the Beckett 1s sit bottom of the Aldi Men’s Northern Tier 1 on just one point, following defeats to Northumbria 1s and Uni of Manchester 1s with their only point coming against the Uni of Leeds 1s in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile the 2s have been far more successful sitting in 2nd place with 3 wins after their opening 4 games. They’ve managed to Uni of Manchester and Leeds so far whereas Beckett 1s failed to do so. Whilst they also beat Manchester Met 1-0 who sit in 3rd place in the table. Beckett 2s only defeat came to top of the league Northumbria who defeated them by a goal to nil.

Steve Waide the Head Coach of Beckett Football 1st team had this to say ahead of their matchup against the flying 2’s.

“My Role as head of football is too ensure that all the teams are doing well… sometimes the twos train in the day with the ones… we couldn’t do that this week. Myself and the twos manager had a chat last week and said that we need to try and keep it as serious as possible and to do that we’ve isolated the two teams this week.”

When asked about the difference in performance between the two sides this season Steve said this;

“As with all Uni football there’s a bit of a cycle, we won the league 2 years running and then obviously lost a lot of players, 8 of the 11 now are all new players (referring the the 1st team) so I think that’s all it is. Its not an ability thing its just jelling and getting to know each other a little bit better.”
