The predicted energy bill increase of 5% is set to come into place in six weeks

UK households are to expect another hard winter as energy bills rise again.

As winter approaches, analysts are warning of a price cap increase by January due to a jump in gas market prices.

Ofgem, the energy regulator, are expected to make the announcement on Thursday evening.

Many people will face lifestyle changes alongside the price increase. Emily Ramskill, a student living in the Headingley area of Leeds has seen the impact of the cost of living crisis in both her student and family home.

Her family, from Pontefract, will see the effect of this change; “That will effect them a lot more. With the start of the rising costs, we had to cut down on heating and really watch where we use these sources.”

“It’s going to get even more on your mind and people are going to be even more stressed.”

Council initiatives, like the ones set in place by Leeds City Council, have been introduced to help support communities and individuals who will feel the pressure of the price rise.

Councillor Barry Anderson, the Conservative representative for Adel and Wharfdale, said said, “There is no doubt it is very difficult in the current circumstances with the increased energy bills, however both the government and the council are trying to do everything they can to help people. Look to see if there are any energy saving measures that you could introduce. Without knowing the circumstance behind people individually, it is very difficult to give advice.”

Following this new forecast, many individuals may be forced to look for additional employment to support their household needs.

The price is estimated to decline by the end of March 2024 subject to changes within the energy market.
