Garforth and District Lions club have started back with their annual Christmas collection.

Over the 5 weeks leading up to Christmas, volunteers and members of the club get together to gather money which goes towards funds for the group.

Santa joins them in his sleigh with Christmas songs playing. He is greeting all the children who can’t wait to tell him their Christmas list and is handing out sweets.

Dave Hill, the Chairman of the club: “You see the kids faces, its brilliant.

“It’s a tradition people say to us, we know its Christmas because the Lions are coming round.”

The volunteers are hard to miss with their high-vis and Santa hats as they get around the streets of Garforth in a large group with buckets.

They said: “Its benefits the community.”

With another stating: “I like to give something back to the community.”

After the Lions had to cancel their annual bonfire, this has very much cheered the Garforth community up as traditions are continuing and the children are kept entertained on the lead up to Christmas.

In the past two weeks, the club have managed to raise around £7500 from this event and have high hopes for the next two weeks to raise even more.

With only two weeks left of the Santa run, the organisation have very limited time and so unable to visit all the streets in the area. They have put out a statement apologising for this.

If you go to their Facebook, they update you with where they are going next so you can see if Santa is coming near you.
