A man has been held on suspicion of an offence, while another was “taken home to their parents” police have said.

Over the last week West Yorkshire Police received numerous anti-social behaviour reports situated in the Hyde Park area.

Attacks on cars on Cardigan Road, Alexandra Road and Richmond mount created fear within the locals.

Local renter Anna Reames said: “As you looked across you could see fireworks being shot at the park, and they could’ve been shot at people. The security said it was kids who hadn’t been let into one of the pubs.”

On top of this the police force were granted with a dispersal order throughout the weekend from 16:00 BST on Saturday until 16:00 BST on Monday in aims of protecting the community by being able to remove a person or group from an area for 48 hours.

The police statement said: “This power will be used to reduce the likelihood of the public in the locality being harassed, alarmed or distressed, and to prevent further crime and disorder.”

The attacks began on a popular night within student nightlife that brings a large population of students to the Hyde park pubs.

Leeds student Cameron Oldling said: “we started to hear really loud bangs, fireworks were being shot at us and it was going in directions of cars in the street. We were all quite frightened.”

No one was harmed throughout the time period, but damages were caused within the local area with a possible connection to a further incident involving vandalism to a restraint situated in Hyde Park Road where bricks were thrown at the shop fronts windows.
