Yorkshire Climate Change Summit brings green action to Leeds

Leaders, businesses and the public gathered at Leeds Conservatoire today, for the Yorkshire Post climate change summit.

Discussions were centered on renewable energy, sustainable transport and community-led innovation, highlighting Yorkshire’s potential to lead a net 0 and carbon emission-free Leeds. Some panels for discussion were technology, energy and transport some of the key things that Leeds are working on. All panels informed the public for ‘a call to action for urgent collaboration’.

Housing and energy transition partner Lucy Meredith explained how Climate action Leeds are planning to empower people and involve tenant associates. They are doing this with groups such as community solar groups. These groups are owned and backed by local people to implement more solar power in communities.

Andy Gwilliam an EV charging project manager at First Bus, described how his projects have included the Leeds, Bramley and York electrification projects.


Some of the things discussed on the panel were how 200 0 emission buses and associated infrastructure are impacting climate change in Yorkshire. Councillor Jenny Kent stated that ‘the time for change is now’.

Since 2019 1 million jobs have been created around sustainability, and it is ever growing.

‘GSD’. Get stuff done was how Katie described her climate change initiative for Leeds. The UK has de-carbonised faster than any other country in Europe.
