As the semester comes to an end, I had the opportunity to attend the Chartered Institute of Public Relations networking event held at the knowledge exchange, Leeds Beckett University, organized by Teela Clayton on 14 March, 2024.

When I registered for this event, I didn’t know what to expect but I was glad I did, the experience was worth it.

Arriving at the event, everyone seemed on edge and ready for what was to come. I was excited and ready to digest every piece of information. The event was attended by students from the Master’s degree program and also the undergraduate students were present. This event created an opportunity for a lot of students to meet and connect together.

The aim of this event is to inspire and encourage public relations students who have chosen to take a career path in public relations.

The event started with Teela’s opening speech as the host of the event, afterwards, the guest speakers all introduced themselves and spoke about their experiences so far in their various career field.

This event gave an opportunity for networking experience, which allowed me to meet and connect with some amazing professionals in the public relations field, the likes of Naj Modak and Prakriti Roy.

It provided valuable insights into the professional journey of experts across various sectors of public relations, they were all willing to share their various experiences through their career Journey in PR. They also shared their different suggestions and advice, which was quite helpful. Meeting with these amazing Personalities was indeed a wonderful experience for me.

I was able to learn a lot from not just these professionals but also from other students of Public Relations and strategic communication from Leeds Beckett University, who were present. Also, we were able to interact and share our own ideas and thoughts.

The ideas and advice shared by these professionals turned out to be quite valuable to the students. It was a wonderful time hearing from these experts talk about their various experience in the different fields of Public Relations.

I was happy to not only have the opportunity to hear their experiences but also to have a personal one-on-one chat with Prakriti Roy and Naj Modak.

Prakiti suggested that “you can improve your CV by applying early for jobs and also important to learn some skills like Canvas.”

I was also able to ask Naj Modak some questions about getting a job in PR after school, and he said, “You can start small by applying to smaller companies for job opportunities; that way, you will create bigger opportunities for yourself.” These advice and ideas was given base on how we could further our goals and careers in public relations.

Furthermore, this event made me realize the importance of networking; it was an inspiring event where I learned that as an Individual, everything is achievable as long as you are willing, determined, hardworking and ready to pursue your dreams regardless of any odds.

I also learned the importance of Communication, as it provides a means of connection and understanding.

After this event, I felt so inspired, educated, and excited about all of these new connects and knowledge gained and also I was glad I had the opportunity to participate in such an inspiring event.

So special thanks to Teela Clayton for organizing this event, and I look forward to more inspiring events!!
