In the past month there has been a huge rise in young girls being spiked whilst they are out clubbing in the UK.
There has always been a problem with spiking but in recent weeks the rates of girls being admitted to hospital has sky rocketed. All the cities in the UK have staged boycotts to the clubs in their cities but that hasn’t been enough.
The club ‘The Warehouse’ released a statement saying that people who are entering their club need to keep within their means when it comes to alcohol consumption as a lot of these spiking incidents aren’t always from spiking and are from too much alcohol consumption.
This statement caused a stir of unhappy women.
A female Poppy Morris was asked what she thought about the warehouse statement and she responded “it showed a complete lack of compassion and ignorance as most of the time that is not the case”
A club representative manager for voodoo events (majority of clubs in Leeds) Oliver Loton gave his thoughts on the matter. He was asked “Since this spiking outbreak do you think clubs are doing enough to protect women whilst they are out” his response was “clubs have introduced plastic lids on drinks, more thorough bag searches, drinks that are left on their own are disposed of and also spiking kits are available to purchase so its a step in the right direction”.
This is a start to help protect young girls on their nights out but is it enough?
Girls in the Leeds area were also interviewed and spoke about how testing kits shouldn’t be up for sale as it is something that is out of their control so they think clubs could be doing more as spiking cases aren’t dropping so more needs to be done.
