University of Leeds dental student informs us as to why masks should still be worn on public transport in order to slow down the spread of COVID19

Hamood Patel, a dentistry student at the University of Leeds medical school urges that it is vital for the government to make masks compulsory again in order to stop the spread from continuing any further. “Personally I think that masks should definitely still be worn on public transport because even when people speak or breathe, they’re producing aerosols which contain viral particles and these are being released into the air” he continued, “by actually wearing a face mask, it will help to stop these viral particles from being spread throughout the air especially in enclosed areas like on public transport.”

The drastic spike in COVID19 cases has seen a rise approximately as high as 32,000 between July 19th and November 2021 according to the government corona virus cases dashboard. These figures follow from all restrictions being lifted which has caused members of the public to grow increasingly concerned for their health and safety now they no longer have social distancing and mandatory mask requirements to lean on.

Suzanne Chewter, a care home nurse who has also previous recovered from nasal cancer said “because in my work, we are getting government checks twice a week, I really feel the responsibility for myself and my patients to check that I always have my mask when travelling on public transport not only to avoid catching the virus from anyone who is not wearing a mask and endangering myself but also to ensure I’m not spreading anything myself.”

In Leeds, there is a daily sum of 414 new confirmed COVID19 cases today according to the government COVID19 website which brings the total to 132,638. Boris Johnson has recently released a statement encouraging us all to open our windows for 10 minutes every hour as another tactic to help slow down the spread.
