Blocked up roadways have become a major inconvenience in Headingley and residents in the area have reached a "breaking point"

Commuters in Headingley have had their journeys disrupted recently as congested roadways are becoming all the more common in the area. The residents of the busy suburb have sometimes even feared for their own safety as motorists make risky manoeuvres in order to avoid waiting around in traffic.

Following the COP26 conference in Glasgow last week there has been increased scrutiny in the UK regarding climate change and especially on cutting down carbon emissions. Blocked up roadways in Leeds are not only dangerous for pedestrians but could also be deadly for the environment. Edie Ramsey suggested that Leeds needs to adapt and put “more busses on the road instead of cars” in order to improve road safety, reduce pollution and keep traffic flowing.

Christian Amir told us that when it comes to the junction on Otley Road “it just takes too much time, and impatient people tend to make stupid decisions when they don’t want to wait”. This comes shortly after a video emerged on twitter of a man mounting the pavement to avoid a traffic jam. “He could have hit a child driving so recklessly, he could have hit anyone” said Amir.

Residents in the area are in an uproar about the traffic situation, David Esposa said “I would actually consider living somewhere else next year, not being able to get the bus into university means I either have to walk or be very late”. It’s clear that people in the suburb are at a breaking point, and something needs to be done desperately soon.
