A marathon is taking place in May 2023, starting and finishing at the Headingly stadium

In honour of the Rugby legend Rob Burrow’s, a former Leeds Rhinos player, the city of Leeds are hosting the first ever marathon since 2003.

Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019 and has since been raising money to create awareness around the topic. He has raised millions of pounds for the MND charity which is “proud to be a charity partner of the brand new event”.

The marathon came in place through former Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield, who was the inspiration behind the event following his many fundraising efforts in recent years in support of Rob.

Overall there will be 7,777 places available in the marathon to respect Rob’s iconic shirt number at Leeds Rhino’s.

A recreational marathon runner, Jahmai Richards says the marathon is “for a great cause” and wishes to be one of the 7,777.

“Marathons push your limits more than anything else.”
