Two young boys charged with murder of another youth in Huddersfield

Two youths will be appearing at Leeds Magistrates Court today after being charged with the murder of 15-year-old Khayri McLean.

The assault happened on Wednesday just outside North Huddersfield Trust School, where Khayri was stabbed to death at about 14:55.

The perpetrators, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are aged 15 and 16 and have also been charged for the possession of a bladed article.

Police were called to the scene in Fartown soon after the attack outside the school gates, Khayri was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but sadly died shortly after arrival.

He was a pupil at the school in question, and his head teacher, Andrew Fell, said “This is truly shocking news for our pupils, your children, and our staff. We will be providing specialist support for any among our community who feel they could benefit.”

“West Yorkshire Police have launched an urgent investigation so it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time. I would urge everyone not to engage in speculation about possible causes or perpetrators and allow the police to make their enquiries. A statement has been released.”

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the pupil’s family and friends who must feel, as we do, completely devastated. They have lost a loved one and we have lost a wonderful student from our school community.”

West Yorkshire Police have stated: “Detectives investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy in Huddersfield have charged two males with murder.”

“Both males, who are 15 and 16 and from Huddersfield, have also been charged with possession of a bladed article.”

“The charges relate to the death of Khayri McLean, who died after he was stabbed in Woodhouse Hill, Huddersfield, last Wednesday.”

Police have asked anyone with any video evidence or additional information to come forward immediately.
