Mark Fotheringham comments on his teams disappointing results as of late.

Huddersfield town now sit bottom of the championship table after a 1-0 loss to Preston North-End on Tuesday evening, just 17 games after competing for Premier League promotion

On 28 September, The Terriers appointed the Scotsman after their worst start to a season in since 2012, in the hopes that he could bring some stability to the team.

“I absolutely understand the fans’ frustrations” said Fotheringham “There is quality in this squad, we’ve shown we can hurt teams, but we need to be more solid.”

Tuesday night was an opportunity to get the second win of his tenure, and his first in front of the home faithful.

Huddersfield kept the visitors at bay for most of the game, but one lapse in concentration form a corner saw Greg Cunningham sneak in at the back post to score the winner for Preston.

“I can’t fault the players effort, they showed great character today” said the manager. “But every week we don’t pick up points it gets harder and harder and we need to understand that as a team.”

Huddersfield aren’t strangers to EFL success, in 2017 they were promoted to the Premier league under David Wagner, marking the Yorkshire Club’s first stint in the top division. Now, Fotheringham has a difficult task to return the club to it’s former glory.

Huddersfield travel to 20th placed Middleborough this Saturday, where Fotheringham hopes to see his team make improvements on the defensive end.

“We’ve got to get back to the basics, we’ve been making progress, but we have to get the balance right between the defence and attack.”
