Zero Waste Leeds have partnered with Leeds City Council to re-launch their winter coat appeal for 2022.
This year, the campaign, run by the business, Social Business Brokers, is aiming to collect 2000 coats which will then be re-distributed throughout Leeds to the people that need them the most this winter. The appeal has comeback this year out of fear that many will go without a warm coat this year.
Across Leeds, there are 10 different donation points shown on the map below.
Tracy Morgan the Project Coordinator told Leeds Now, “Leeds City Council wanted us to extend it this year to include adult coats not just children coats which is what we did last year. Because, their also thinking parents would rather spend their money on their children and they would then go cold”
“Our target is 2000, last year we got 500 and it was a very small campaign with only a handful of businesses involved, but this year we’ve got almost triple the amount of businesses and collection points.”
With the recent cost of living crisis, this year has seen an increase in demand for warm winter clothing. The aim of this appeal is to make sure winter coats are available to everyone in the city this winter.
“We all know Leeds is actually a generous city and we’ve always been blown away by how generous people are” said Tracey Morgan. “People are aware now more than ever, with the cost of living crisis, how much things cost, and coats can cost quite a bit of money.”
The appeal launched on October, 10. So far, 18 local businesses have signed up to help collect coats from their employees for the appeal. People have up until November, 13 to donate their coats.
