Heinz supplies free meals via Morrisons cafes across country

"I'm lucky not to need it, but so many people will get help through this initiative."

Morrisons cafes across the country have embraced a new initiative to provide a free hot meal to anyone who needs it, no questions asked. The scheme will give about 1,60,000 meals until Sunday, November 6, to anyone who ‘asks for Henry’. The meal includes a jacket potato with beans and salad. Heinz hopes it will help families who need it, but they say anyone can ask for it.

The project was inspired by the founder of Heinz, Henry J Heinz; he would often share his mother’s homemade dishes with his community. Henry Heinz was a philanthropist and is well-known for his quote, “give all you can wisely.”

The offer runs throughout all 397 Morrisons cafes across the country from Wednesday, October 26 and runs until Sunday, November 6. Social Media has played its role on sharing this project.

Jojo De Noronha, president of Northern Europe at Heinz, said: “October marks the birthday of an exceptional member of the Heinz family, our founder Henry J. Heinz.
“Henry brought comfort and goodness to others, not just through his food but his actions. We want to honours his good heart and kind spirit by doing what he did best, helping feed people in times of need – and that’s why we’re launching ‘ask for Henry’ with our partner Morrisons on October 26.”

Sian Whittle, Category Director of Morrison’s café, said, “We know that our customers are under real financial pressure at the moment and are therefore pleased to be partnering with Heinz.”

“It’s a wonderful idea, I wouldn’t use it personally because I’m lucky not to need it, but so many people will get help through this initiative. If someone is hungry and in need, there would be nothing to complain about. It’s a warm, free meal.” shopper said.

Several people still need to be made aware of this project being available to them, so Heinz has taken to media and press releases to spread the word.

People are spreading this information through social media.

The offer is limited to one meal per customer daily and is subject to availability.
