The research being done at the Carnegie School of Sport is ground-breaking and could lead to talent identification being changed forever

The Carnegie School of Sport in Leeds is one of the world’s leading Universities in the research behind talent identification.

Professor Kevin Till spoke about the impact the research has had on the field: “Research has been prominent over the last two decades and is an interesting area for all involved from coaches to sports scientists,

“The research has helped identify characteristics that are important for long-term development.”

Prof Till has recently published an article with Professor Joe Baker about the challenges facing talent identification and possible solutions (2020).

“Such work has had impact whereby organisations have adapted and changed their talent identification and development system practices,

“Research needs to use multi-dimensional designs that use physical, psychological, technical and tactical characteristics,

“Research also needs to consider the coach within this and use their insights to understand talent identification.”

The newly formed England women’s Knights squad is the next phase of development for young women playing Rugby league.

The Knights squad acts as a way for coaches to look into the “next generation” of women Rugby players.

England Rugby’s Chief on field officer, Dave Rotherham spoke about the impact this squad will have on development: “Perfect stage to showcase yourself,

“I would say this talent pathway is emerging,

“You need to give players the opportunity,

“Its about looking for the players to excel at the next level.”
