Leeds university announce cost of living support

Leeds Beckett University reveal a range of support during the cost of living crisis.

It comes following a national surge in prices in all sectors.

Leeds Beckett University announce a range of measures to support students through the national cost of living crisis, some of the measures include on campus meals, rent, and graduation support among others.

All students are now offered a meal in the campus for £2 with both a meat option and a vegan option, Holly Swift, 20, who studies at the university said “It helps, with us being in a city centre you’re not going to find another place to eat for that price.”

In addition to the food offer, accommodation halls that Leeds Beckett are the landlord of have had the impact of rent increases reduced between 2.4% to 12.3%.

Jada Lee, 20, said “Although the £2 offer is cheap, I simply cannot afford to pay that each day and I have to resort to cheaper noodle or rice options just to pay my bills.”

Peter Slee, Vice Chancellor at Leeds Beckett University said, “We know the current cost of living crisis is a very real concern for many of our students.”

“While the national crisis means our own costs are increasing significantly, we are determined to make a difference.”

“We have worked hard across the university to create a package of support and initiatives designed to help with some of the extra costs students face”, Slee continued.

For graduating students, their now offered gown rentals free of charge and supplied with two free tickets for friends or family.
