Visitors can participate in many different activities and events at the farm this winter.

From the Light Night event to Blackpool donkeys and the Christmas market, people are looking forward to the upcoming activities to enjoy at Meanwood Urban Farm.

Mini Light Night

The original Light Night event will take place in Leeds city centre on 12 and 13 October. The follow-up mini Light Night at the farm will come a day later on Saturday, 14 October. The event will have 23 different light and sound activations across the farm. ‘The Path Between’ that leads from Meanwood farm to Bustlingthorpe will also be full of fun surprises for visitors.

Blackpool donkeys

From this December until March, the farm will welcome back three donkeys from Blackpool. The donkeys will have a nice rest for their Christmas break after having kids on their backs all summer.

Adam Ogilvie, chief executive officer of the farm, said people could come up and stroke the donkeys: “Generally we have a really good reception from visitors that donkeys are really popular, particularly with kids who absolutely adore them. They are quite more mature donkeys, but they love people and they are full of character.”

Christmas market

The farm has started planning for the return of the Christmas market on 9 December. It is estimated that around a hundred people would come to the fair. There will be food, music and Santa Claus for children. The farm will also put a Christmas trail for children to have fun activities together such as finding Santa Claus and farm animals’ pictures.

Adam stressed the role of the farm as a great escape for people living in the city: “At the heart of Leeds city, we are just over a mile out of the city centre. Our aim is to reach people who might not get the chance to go out and that’s really important because there are a lot of individuals and communities who perhaps are struggling at the moment with the cost of living and everything.”
