After experiencing the loss of four babies in one year, Samantha Catanach “felt very much alone” during her miscarriages and wants to continue to raise baby loss awareness around the world.

One in four pregnancy’s are lost according to the Chasing Rainbow Charity UK. For the 21st year, baby loss awareness week has made a return to raise awareness for the families that have suffered from the 9th to the 15th of October.

The organiser of Chasing Rainbows Charity UK, Samantha Catanach uses her platform on social media to keep the awareness high on fertility, pregnancy loss and recurrent miscarriages and onto how it effects women.

The charity have raised £5000 just this week through organising a brunch, encouraging people from across the country to open up about their experiences.

Many people are effected by the loss of a baby. Midwife, Rashel Ofighi: “the most important thing to do is give them time and provide emotional support and care.”

“Its a very devastating and difficult thing to go through and the way you care for them is something that they will always remember.”

Charities raise the awareness throughout the year. Chasing rainbows Charity sell memorial gifts such as candles and bracelets.

Samantha Catanach: ” We give the bracelets to local hospitals for free so that any woman that goes in who has lost a baby gets a free bracelet.”

“When you leave the hospital with no baby in your arms the worst part for me was walking out with nothing and feeling empty.”

Catanach expresses she is doing this so they feel they aren’t leaving with nothing. She also runs a monthly peer support group in Anlaby East Riding for women who can speak to other women about recurrent loss. She also offers an open inbox on both social media and email for women who aren’t local so that they can still reach the peer group for support.
