Yorkshire Rams general manager speaks on his team’s search for a new head coach ahead of new season.

The Yorkshire Academy Rams are currently on the hunt for a new head coach (HC) after Jason Shaw’s departure back in September.

The Rams are coming off a 6-4 record last season where they finished third in the NFC 1 Central division.

“It is a difficult process as there are not a large number of people transitioning into coaching within Yorkshire,” says Stewart Hegarty, the general manager of the Rams.

”There is also the enhanced requirements from within the league, such as CPD and enhanced certifications which are required.”

But Hegarty does say: “It is still ongoing, we have a number of people interested,” and “We’re very fortunate to have a committee that has a wealth of experience in coaching, managing and playing,” in relation to how the team is coping currently without a HC.

Pre-season training begins in November and Rams quarterback Taylor Umland says this about preparing to succeed without a HC in place:

Not only are the Rams looking for a new HC, but they are also looking to change their public notoriety on and off the field.

“We have strayed away from being a club people want to be part of,” says Hegarty. “Teams that adapt and try to be innovative are reaping the rewards and it’s time for the Rams to do the same.”

The Rams are also looking to move way from their old fashioned “triple option” style of offence to a more modern and successful scheme ahead of the new season.

The main goal for the Rams in the upcoming season is to “win the division and make the playoffs,” says Hegarty. “We also want to change the perception of the team to that of our original Academy vision of one that supports and develops personnel.”
