Castleford appoint Batley Head Coach Craig Lingard

Castleford Tigers announce the appointment of Craig Lingard & Danny McGuire ahead of the 2024 Betfred Super League campaign.

Lingard signs for the Tigers on a two-year deal after joining former Tigers Head Coach Andy Last as assistant mid way through last season. The former Batley Head Coach previously led his sides to 1895 and Play off finals, and was key in the rise of the Batley Bulldogs.

Craig spoke to us earlier in the week and expressed how privileged he feels to lead the Tigers outfit.

“I massively honored! Something I’ve always aspired to be is a Head Coach in Super League and I’ve got that opportunity now.”

“With a lot of change in personnel with people leaving and people coming in, the bulk of the squad that are staying I’ve got experience working with.”

“I can work a bit more closely with them next year and put my stamp on how I want us to play and the values we want to bring back to Castleford Tigers to make us more successful than we have been this season.”

His assistant Danny McGuire will also join the club on a two-year deal. Danny is looking ahead for a new challenge after spending time as Assistant to Willie Peters at Hull Kingston Rovers. McGuire is no stranger to success after having an outstanding player career, winning the Super League on 8 different occasions as well as two Challenge Cup trophies.

Danny now looks ahead to a new challenge with the Tigers after being a hero up the road in Leeds.

“I’m really excited about the new challenge after a fair bit of speculation but for me it’s about looking forward to working with a really talented bunch of players and a club with history and everything that surrounds Castleford Tigers.”
