Farsley Celtic’s first choice right back Lewis Turner will be on the sidelines until the new year, with an ankle injury.

Turner, who played for Leeds United until 2014, has recovered from tough injuries prior to this one in his career and has stated: “The key to recovery is mostly mental. I always tried to picture myself back playing in my head”.

The Garforth-born defender, tore his patellar tendon in his knew 4 years ago and was sidelined for a year. He was admitted to rehab and kept himself into a tight routine to get back onto the pitch as soon as possible. Therefore, he’s no stranger to the struggles he will face.

Currently applying his trade at Farsley, Lewis was at Leeds, Harrogate Town and Scarborough Athletic before joining The Celt Army back in September 2021. He first joined in 2017 from Harrogate.

Lewis said this was a recurring injury from pre-season: “I was getting pain down the side of my ankle when running… it’s not improved with physio rehab or steroid injection”.

The club physio, Gareth Liversidge said: “I had a basic perception based on my experience that it was the ligaments were damaged but definitely not a break or fracture… without a X-Ray you can never be sure”.

“After seeing the scans, I assessed the damage and put it down as a medium grade. He will be on the bike and rowing machine for a few weeks. Hopefully getting to jogging to build up strength and mobility”.

The Professional Football Association (PFA) were able to make this process a lot easier for both Farsley Celtic and Lewis, as they paid most of the operation. Turner told us: “I couldn’t be more grateful for what they’ve done, I only paid a small sum myself”.

The National League North side currently sit 13th after winning their last game away at Scarborough 1-2.
