Uni Boob Club: Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Leeds.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Leeds.

October is globally known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, where various companies campaign and raise money to donate towards research and the further education on the disease.

Over 350 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, alongside the staggering statistic of 1 in 7 women developing it throughout their lifetime.

A society run by a collective of students at the University of Leeds, named Uni Boob Club, are an “official branch of the CoppaFeel! charity” who work to provide young women, particularly students, with the information they need when it comes to breast cancer.

Felicity Haslin, the social secretary of the society, states that “the booby bingo event that we run was extremely successful, because it was some lighthearted fun, but it also got people talking about a serious issue.”

Multiple shops and brands demonstrate their support towards Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the display of limited edition pink products, for example the Estée lauder counter in Harvey Nichols, Leeds.

“Throughout October, we hand out leaflets alongside each sale” explained a sales assistant in the shop. “It’s a good conversation starter and it gets the customers talking on the topic.”

The Primark store manager in the Trinity shopping center, Leeds, gave insight on what they do as a company for the cause during October:

“Throughout the month of October we sell a wider variety of post surgery sets, that have been co-designed by women who have undergone breast cancer related procedures.”
