After a quick turnaround from their 3-1 defeat away to Workshop Town on Saturday afternoon, Bradford (Park Avenue) was back in action as they welcomed Whitby Town to the Horsfall.

Mark Bower’s side haven’t won a game in the Northern Premier League premier division in two months, their last win was at the end of August when they put four goals past Ilkeston Town in front of a home crowd of 366.

Both sides made a positive start to the match, however, Jerome Greaves thought he had broken the deadlock after 18 minutes for Whitby, but he was flagged offside from the free-kick.

Will Lancaster came close with a curling effort from outside of the box which agonisingly for Avenue hit the crossbar.

Whitby opened the scoring through Junior Mundal whose low driven shot was enough to beat George Sykes-Kenworthy in goal.

On the stroke of half-time, the home side lost midfielder Harrison Hopper who had to be substituted after picking up an injury.

Following the restart, his replacement Chinedu Osadebe made an immediate impact. Less than a minute into the second half, the cross from out wide by Lucas Ouduston missed Jordan Preston in the box but Osadebe was on hand to deflect the ball goalwards and equalise for Bradford (PA).

Speaking after the game, manager Mark Bower said: “It was a great point really, as everything was against us tonight. I didn’t think there was much in the game in the first half, then we came out really well at the start of the second half and got level. Given we have a lot of young, inexperienced players, I thought the lads showed great character to see it through.”

The point against Whitby Town leaves Avenue sitting in 19th place in the relegation zone. Their next match is at home to Markse Utd on Saturday 28th October at Horsfall Stadium.
