The walks are an opportunity to get fresh air and exercise whilst making new friends.

Leeds Now joined them in the first rainy walk of the season, finished being treated to coffee and cake.

David Woodall, Methodist Minister of Leeds Sanctuary said;

“I’m part of the team at Leeds sanctuary and we are a network of small communities in Leeds City Centre

I think as a human being we have physical sides to ourselves; we have our mental health, we have our spiritual health and actually sometimes we need to bring all those together.

And actually sometimes when we work hard all day we sit on our desks, we work from home, we don’t put our physical health into action and that can have an impact on our mental health and spiritual wellbeing. So it’s a chance to get out to experience the fresh air, to talk to others and hopefully holistically feel better.

Everything that Leeds sanctuary does is free for all, the wellbeing walks are open to anyone who wants to come out on a wet Thursday Lunchtime”

The sanctuary also work in partnership with Active Leeds in which we spoke to Fiona Hoare: the swim, run, bike activator for the company.

“I don’t think people understand the negative effect of poor mental health; sleeping, diet. You become very introverted and that can be quite a problem around here as it is. A lot of isolation and loneliness, so trying to get a person to come out and make friends in groups will help them to go forward.”

She was particularly excited for the visit to Fearns, as she put it “Coffee and Cake, Yay!!!”

Future dates of the walk include:
Thursday 09 November,
Thursday 23 November,
Thursday 07 December, and
Thursday 21 December.
