300 people raised £17,000 to acquire two mobility scooters at Temple Newsam park for the elderly and disabled visitors.

The money raised for the park was to buy mobility scooters for those in need of one. The Friends of Temple Park wanted to make the area accessible for the disabled and elderly that would not be able to see and enjoy all 1500 acres of land without one of these electric scooters.

Geoffrey North, Chair of the friends of Temple Newsam Park: “Having these large mobility scooters allows the people in need of one to get around the park easily.

“We are conscious that a lot of the parks in Leeds do not have these facilities.”

With the two extra scooters arriving, this now makes four mobility scooters available at the park with free usage to all guests after starting the fundraiser in 2021.

Sovereign Health care donated up to £5000 towards this aid as well as other donations from charities such as, Wades Charity and Barchester Charitable Foundation.

The Community Programme Co-ordinator for Sovereign Health Care, Kauser Mukhtar: “Temple Newsam has a building and grounds that are large so people with disabilities wouldn’t be able to access it without the use of a mobility scooter.

“We are really keen on people having access to the same services and provision that everyone else has access to.”

A visitor from Temple Newsam Park, expresses how these mobility scooters helped his mum to see more of the park.

There has been other comments from the public thanking the charities.

Geoff says: “One woman thanked me as their little girl was able to access the park after they invested in the Scooters.”

He continues to say how thankful he his for the comments and how it put all their hard work into perspective.

The friends of Newsam Park, founded in 1999, have a goal of protecting, preserving and improving the park and will continue to do so for future generations.
