Hanley Town edge closer to the playoffs after an impressive away performance

After a disappointing 2-0 home loss the prior week to Mossley, Hanley Town put out a superb away performance to claim a 1-0 victory away at Cheshire-based outfit Runcorn Linnets.

Hanley were not at their best against Mossley, struggling to break them down and register many chances whilst the away side found joy in hitting the Staffordshire club on the break.

This weekend though was different to last, as Hanley defended doggedly and stuck to what they know works, limiting Runcorn to very little throughout the match.

It took until the 66th minute for the deadlock to be broken as Lucas Baker played a great ball from the left into Tyrone Ofori who let the ball run and used his body to shield the defender before firing into the bottom right corner with his left foot from the edge of the box.

This result lifts Hanley to 12th place, just four points off of the playoff places in what is proving to be an extremely competitive league this year.

Post Mossley game, when asked about whether the result would affect the squad’s morale, player/manager Ryan Shotton said, “We bounce back well. In this league, we know that anybody can beat anybody.

“It’s a matter of dusting ourselves down, going again in training and working on stuff that we were missing today.

“In terms of morale, this is one of the best bunch of lads that will bounce back so I don’t have a problem with that.”

Shotton was to be proved right in his confidence of bouncing back as they did so at the first attempt.

Next up for Hanley is a midweek trip to Leek Town on 7th November where they will hope to make it back-to-back victories and cement themselves in playoff contention.
