Connor Sullivan is "very proud" to be selected by Scotland ahead of the Northern European Gymnastics Competition 2023, for the second year in a row.

Sullivan said: “I feel very proud, I represented Scotland last year and we came second. I’m hoping to build on that and get first place this year.” Scotland missed out on first place, losing to Finland in 2022.

Sullivan, who is studying economics and finance at Leeds Beckett University, is determined to improve on last year’s performance with his team. He said: “After last year I always knew I wanted to push on again and do another one, it was a great experience.”

The Championships begin on November 24 in Sweden. He will be competing against fellow Leeds Beckett students, Henry Lewis (Wales) and Jake Johnson (England). The three train together at Leeds Gymnastics Club, for 25-30 hours a week.

“My best piece is probably the floor or the vault, the jumping, I’m pretty good at that,” Sullivan said. He came 5th in the vault at the Northern European Gymnastics Championships 2022.

Sullivan has a busy gymnastics schedule while still studying at University. He said: “Balancing uni life with training is a challenge but I’ve been doing it for a while, school work, college work, I’ve built up a good routine and have managed to deal with it over the years.”

“I just get on with it,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan will have a few more weeks to prepare before he travels to Sweden. His international journey will continue as he said: “Hopefully in the years to come I’ll do a few more.”
