Greater Manchester football fans travel prices

Football fans can end up spending a lot of money solely on the travel to and from matches, and in some cases tis can add up to even more then the ticket prices at some teams.

After research on travel prices for teams in Greater Manchester we found some fans are paying up to over £300 for travel whereas some teams fans are lucky enough to get their travel for under £100 for the whole season as seen in the graph below.

Stockport County fans have the cheapest journey over the season at £52 to watch their club play whereas Oldham athletic fans have to pay the most at over 6 times the price paying £327.60 meaning a Stockport fan saves a considerable £275.60 over the course of a season averaging 26 home games.

When asked how they felt about these prices Harry Locke, a Stockport County fan said ”Its brilliant for us lot, doesn’t cost much so I never really have to worry about it. I go to every home game and £2.50 a game for travel is most definitely worth it.”

On the other hand Oldham Athletic fan, Brandon Bonnar did not feel the same way ”To be honest the train prices are a bit of a joke. Over 300 quid we pay for the season which is pretty much what I payed for my season ticket and adding the them both together that’s nearly 700 coming out our pockets every year.”

A lot of the teams on the outskirts of Manchester tend to have higher train prices to travel to and a lot of these teams are lower league semi pro clubs therefore their fans from central Manchester can be left feeling hard done by.
