There are a lot of clubs in the Greater Manchester area, but which is the best value for money?

A recent study showed that Stockport Town were the best valued club in Greater Manchester in the 2022/23 season, having the cheapest cost per goal.

Stockport Town scored a whopping 63 goals in just 19 league home games last season as The Lions battled for promotion. A season ticket at the Stockport based club costs a humble £74, meaning fans saw their team score a goal for every £1.17 they spent.

Using this metric, Stockport Town were the best valued team in Greater Manchester.

Currently playing in the North West Counties Football League Division One South, Stockport Town provide their fans with plenty of entertainment as they score goals for fun.

Joshua Aellen, a Stockport Town season ticket holder said: “I go to all the home and away games, I’ve been following Town for 4 years now and I would highly recommend going to the games.”

As well as cheap tickets, Stockport Town fans have enjoyed success on the pitch. With a great 22/23 season under player-manager Paul Turnbull, Stockport Town finished second in the division – narrowly missing out on automatic promotion by a single point last year. They won 79% of their home games meaning supporters saw plenty of goals and victories throughout the year.

Although Stockport Town were narrowly beaten in the playoffs to Cheadle Town, the club endured a highly enjoyable season – The 63 goals they scored at home was the most by any Greater Manchester club, including treble winning Manchester City.

Research has shown Stockport Town were the best value for money statistically last season, and fans of the club also agree.

Town had the highest average attendance in the division last season, averaging 215 fans per game. Fans from across the town are becoming aware of the club’s value.

Aellen said: “The ticket prices are really affordable,” he continued, “I most definitely would agree that it is a very good value for money and would highly recommend going to non league games”.

At the half-way point of the current season, Stockport Town sit once again in second place as they chase promotion. While it might be too late to take advantage of the club’s reasonably priced season tickets, matchday tickets are available to purchase for just £6 per game.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, North West Counties Football League Division One South winners Wythenshawe Town also proved to be great value for money – as their £80 season tickets cost £1.33 per home goal they scored.

The worst value team in Greater Manchester was in fact Premier League side Manchester United, whose season tickets cost £26.39 per home goal scored. Their £950 home season tickets certainly did not represent value for money.

Manchester United fan, Rory Matloob said: ”Compared to other premier league teams, it’s quite extortionate. If you’ve got a family, two kids who want to go to matches, there’s no chance they’ll be able to afford it.”

If you’re looking for the club in Greater Manchester with the best valued tickets and a high entertainment factor, look no further than Stockport Town who play their next home game on Saturday 16th December against Brocton.
