I was privileged to be part of a Public Relations Crisis Communication Simulation tour in Leeds this week, it was one single PR simulation tour that irked my thinking and changed my perception about crisis communication planning and response.

An amazing PR crisis Communication software Polpeo was used. This software integrated all units of an organization from PR to HR, staff, all social media accounts down to the CEO, new developments, challenges and updates are shared in real-time, information and data relevant to making split minute decision-making by the senior management and the CEO are shared in real-time.

And I got the firsthand experience of a crisis for organization could look like and how to respond in real time. When I reflected on my experience, the first question that came to my mind was. Can this be integrated into classroom learning where students are divided into groups and given a simulated scenario to work on to enhance their skills on how to respond to real life crisis.

Soft wares are powerful tools any organization cannot ignore. Soft wares have revolutionised how we live and work, it has made our everyday works easy, and have enhanced wide reaching organizational response when it comes to how organisations communicate both with internal and external stakeholders and the public in peace times and in crisis.

In the ever-changing digital landscape, PR practitioners, and indeed prospective students must keep abreast with new tools, soft wares and applications that could enhance social listening, anticipate crisis, communicate, and make fast but challenging decisions at every stage of a looming crisis- pre crisis, crisis and post crisis stages.
