Millions of people across the UK and other countries celebrated the coronation of King Charles III this weekend.

A festival was held in Pudsey, Leeds on Monday 8th May to bring the community together and celebrate the King’s Coronation. With stalls, bouncy castles and live bands there was something for everyone.

More than 22,000 people from 220 countries were in Westminster Abbey for the coronation.

This royal event was designed to boost small businesses in Pudsey. However, Philip Gordon, a stall holder who attended the event said that the coronation has not been successful for small businesses like his.

“This weekend has been dedicated to watching the coronation rather than going out and doing coronation things,” said Gordon. Despite this, he still believes the crowning of the king is generally positive as it’s a once in a life time thing and “next week will be a different story.”

Amy Gleed hosted the event in Leeds to promote small businesses and give the community the chance to celebrate over the bank holiday weekend. Although she doesn’t “personally care that much about the king’s coronation,” she appreciates that for a lot of people this was a rare occasion. This was the first time she has ever hosted an event of this size, and said that “I’ve learnt quite a lot. Next time I will advertise it better on social media as it was not as busy as I would have hoped.”

Whether it be street parties, festivals or attending local pubs, people came together to celebrate the ceremony held at Westminster Abbey. With the King becoming the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned there since 1066, this was a huge event for the country. Overall, there was a positive atmosphere on the day and it was watched by a total of 20 million people in the UK.
