A statement by the LUFC Trust backed an away ticketing price cap this week, after calls for the EFL to introduce a measure similar to the Premier Leagues TwentyIsPlenty scheme – where away tickets are capped at £20. Leeds fans were charged £46 ahead of this weekends game with Norwich, £16 over the Premier Leagues cap.

Season ticket holder, Harry Rio said: “I know it’s a luxury to go to the football but for someone on minimum wage it is a large proportion of a wage to spend to watch your team”

Frustrations also have risen over the price of home tickets. Match tickets are priced between £32-£47 for adults per game, dependent on the stand and a £60 membership is required to purchase.

Milo Foster said: “Nearly £50 to watch Championship football.. it’s a lot of money to be spending”

Having a membership comes with no guarantee of a ticket, Hayden Griffiths said: “I think it’s quite unfair, you’re taking money out of people’s pockets when they’re hoping to get tickets but there’s not many chances to secure one”

Frustrations also exist over the cost of merchandise. Leeds United have the joint most expensive kit in the league, charging £65 for an adult home shirt. This has priced out some fans from buying the new shirts, leaving some supporters waiting for a sale towards the end of the season.

When talking about merchandise, Griffiths said: “I think it’s a bit pricey, I think they’re getting you to pay extortionate amount when they start to bring new kits out.”
